Lovely Floral Embossing Folder

Here is a little sneak peek of the new Lovely Floral Embossing Folder.

I have been playing with this one a lot lately.  This folder can be used all by itself, or as a background for something else.

I started out using a sponge dauber then switched it to a blender pen.  I used the new Grapefruit Grove, Pineapple Punch and returning Mint Macaron.

This was part of the Share What You Love Bundle that will be available on May 1st for everyone.  I didn't have ribbon in any of the new colors so I took a piece of white and with the sponge dauber I colored it Grapefruit Grove.  Added a few of the new Artisan Pearls, and you are finished.

Definitely Dahlia

Saying good by to Definitely Dahlia.  Yes sad to say this one is going away.  This has been such a great stamp to use all on it's own.  You really don't need anything else with it.  I will miss this one, but along with saying good by to some also means saying hello to some new ones.

I will be posting a few sneak peeks in the next few weeks.

I used the shaving cream techniques to make the background for this.  You can find details on how to do this background here.  For this one I used the "B" block, but you could use any size, or different sizes if you wanted.  Start with So Saffron, Pool Party and then Marina Mist.

Stamp the Dahlia and the words with Basic Black (also leaving us).

I colored the ribbon with the Light Daffodil Delight Stampin' Blends.

Happy Birthday with Foil Frenzy DSP

Today I'm sharing a card I made using the Foil Frenzy DSP.  I really liked this paper when I first saw it in the catalog, then after getting it I didn't like the craft color as much.  So....this is what I did.

I took a piece of the Foil Frenzy( 3 3/4 x 5).  This was the one with the Lemon Lime Twist Chevron pattern.  With the Early Espresso ink pad, I then drug it over the entire piece of DSP.  Direct ink to paper technique.  Now you could use a sponge and get the same effect, but it would take longer.

Die cut the Happy Birthday Thinlits out of the center of the DSP.  Before layering the die cut on top of the Lemon Lime Twist card stock, you need to drag the Early Espresso ink at an angel over the top to give it a light coloring.

Sponge the edges of the large piece of Lemon Lime Twist with Early Espresso.

Another version with the same colors, but the dot pattern.

This one was with the Soft Sky DSP and Island Indigo ink.  Now I tried to layer it with Island Indigo paper didn't match at all.  The craft paper and the ink made it more of a green.  So I layered it with Tranquil Tide.

Retiring List is here!

Well it's that time of the year when Stampin' Up puts out the retiring list and it's a long one.  Now don't panic when you see all the ink pads on the retiring list.  They are not all retiring.  They have re- designed the ink pads.  However Stampin' Up did do a new color revamp this year.

The Annual Catalog retiring list can be found here, and the Occasions Catalog list can be found here.

Now onto the new colors!

Here are the new Colors:

Besides the 2016-2018 In Colors here is a list of the colors that are going away.

  • Always Artichoke
  • Chocolate Chip
  • Elegant Eggplant
  • Island Indigo
  • Marina Mist
  • Perfect Plum
  • Pink Pirouette
  • Rose Red
  • Soft Sky
  • Tangerine Tango
  • Tempting Turquoise
  • Wild Wasabi
  • Wisteria Wonder
Stampin' Up also  reorganized the colors.

As you can see the took out Basic Black, Whisper White and Very Vanilla and put them in a group of their own.

Along with the color changes, they redesigned the case.

The case’s manufacturing mold was about to expire. So Stampin’ Up, had to decide if they wanted to order more of the same molds or try to improve the design.   They chose to improve the design at the same time they did a color revamp.

What’s better about the case?
Using research, focus group feedback, comments in the Product Sandbox, and the L2L program, we discovered a few things that could improve the design of the Classic Stampin’ Pad case.
We wanted the new case to:
  • Be less confusing to open. Opening the new ink pad case is now more simple and intuitive—just insert your thumb in the lip at the front of the case and lift it to open.
  • Have a tighter fit between the lid and the base. With the new design, the lid doesn’t accidentally become disconnected, which was a common problem with the old case style. With use, the lid will be easier to slide open and close.
  • Be stackable. The ability to stack the cases makes them easier to store and transport. We designed a nub in each bottom corner that fits nicely into the dimple on the top of another case. Tip: Removing the label stickers from the bottom of the case (after applying the needed labels to the case) also makes the ink pads stack a little better.
  • Include improved labels and stickers. Here are a few of the ways we’ve done that:
    • The top label now has a cleaner, bolder design and a larger color swatch, making it easier to see the ink’s color.
    • The stickers include a new In Color icon.
    • We’ve continued to provide color stickers that can be placed on the end of each case to easily identify the ink’s color at a glance.
    • We’re introducing a new color sticker you can place on the inside of the case, so you can easily distinguish the ink’s color when the case is open.
How is the ink different?
We improved our ink formula because we noticed that our old ink would sometimes bubble, especially on new pads and with lighter colors. When this happened, the ink wasn’t as even and smooth when stamped as we’d like to see it.
The improved ink formula will:
  • Reduce ink bubbles.
  • Help you get a smooth coating of ink on the stamp.
  • Help lay down the ink better.

Can I use an old ink refill on a new ink pad or a new ink refill on an old ink pad?
Yes! You absolutely can with the exception of the Basic Gray Archival and Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ inks. Archival and Classic inks should not be mixed. All other Classic Stampin’ inks will work fine.
Where is the archival ink?
Archival ink will no longer be part of our ink offering. Basic Gray will now be part of the Classic Stampin’ ink family. Please note that you cannot use an archival ink refill on the new Basic Gray Classic Stampin’ Pad, as this will ruin the new ink pad. Only use Classic Stampin’ ink refills on Classic Stampin’ pads. Your best options for black ink pads are the Tuxedo Black Memento Pad, to use with Blends and general black stamping needs, and the Jet Black StāzOn Pad, to use for watercolor and nonporous surface stamping. Both will be part of our ink offering. We are confident that both the Memento and StāzOn pads are high-quality inks that perform to our customers’ needs.
I know this is a lot of info today, so if you have any questions please let me know.

Keep in mind if you see something on the retiring list don't wait too long.  Some items go very quickly.

Black Ice with Amazing You

I have been playing with the Black Ice technique lately and decided to try it with out using Foil paper.  Now unfortunately the Amazing You set was a celebration set and is no longer available, but I still have been playing with it.  It would be nice to see it carry over into the new catalog.

I took a piece of Basic Gray card stock and drug the Basic Black across it to make the streaks just like with the Foil paper.  Remember to keep it at an angel. Then stamped the flower with Basic Black and colored with Night of Navy Stampin' Blends and stamped the phrase with Basic Black.

Now you drag Versa mark across (at an angel) and emboss with clear embossing powder.  Cut into 3 pieces and attach to a piece of Whisper White.  Add ribbon and attach to Night of Navy and then to Basic Gray.

Here is a link to the Original Black Ice, you will also find a link to Melissa Kerman who has a great video on how to do this technique.
